Photoshop actions are recorded sequences of steps or commands in Adobe Photoshop that automate repetitive tasks. These steps can include things like applying filters, resizing images, adjusting colors, or even creating complex effects. Once recorded, an action can be played back on any image, saving time and effort.

How to Use Photoshop Actions:

  1. Open the Actions Panel:
    • Go to Window > Actions to open the Actions panel. This panel will display any actions you have already created or loaded.
  2. Creating a New Action:
    • In the Actions panel, click the “Create New Action” button (a square icon at the bottom of the panel) or choose “New Action” from the panel menu.
    • Name the action, choose a set to save it in, and assign a function key or color if desired for quick access.
    • Click “Record” to start recording. Photoshop will now record every step you take.
  3. Recording Your Steps:
    • Perform the steps you want to include in the action. For example, you could resize the image, adjust the brightness, or add a filter.
    • Once finished, click the “Stop” button (square icon) in the Actions panel. The action is now saved.
  4. Playing Back an Action:
    • To apply the action to another image, select the action in the Actions panel and click the “Play” button (triangle icon).
    • The recorded steps will be executed on the current image.
  5. Editing Actions:
    • Actions can be edited by expanding the action in the panel and adjusting individual steps. You can add, remove, or rearrange steps as needed.
  6. Loading and Saving Actions:
    • You can load actions downloaded from the internet by choosing “Load Actions” from the Actions panel menu.
    • To share or back up your actions, choose “Save Actions” to export the action set.

Common Uses for Photoshop Actions:

  • Batch Processing: Apply the same edits to multiple images automatically.
  • Photo Effects: Create artistic effects that involve multiple steps, such as vintage looks or HDR effects.
  • Resizing and Watermarking: Automate the process of resizing images and adding a watermark for consistent branding.

Photoshop actions are a powerful tool to speed up workflow and ensure consistency across multiple projects.
